Call for Presentations
The WASLI Oceania Conference Committee invites proposals for presentations to make a conference programme that celebrates connection and professional development among interpreters and Deaf communities in Oceania.
We will consider any topic relevant to the region. Here are some ideas for possible topic areas:
- Collaboration across countries/interpreters/Deaf community/ ally organisations
- Interpreter training – needs, successes, models
- Interpreting as information access – eg. TV news, emergency situations
- Documenting your country’s sign language
- Peer mentoring among interpreters
- Interpreting across wide gaps (language, culture, education)
- Interpreting settings- challenges and practices in your country (eg, police, healthcare, families, school and meetings)
Presentation, 40 mins
Present information, ideas, experience or research. 30 mins + 10 mins for questions.
Panel, 45 mins
Panels require a topic or an issue, a facilitator, and 4-5 panel members. Panel members give a prepared, brief presentation explaining their point of view about the panel topic. Then there may be questions or responses from the audience.
